LO2: Content Analysis - Similar product analysis

Brampton College promotional video 

The genre of this promotional video is to promote, educate, persuade and inform potential future students to attend the college. This video fulfils its purpose to promote the college throw different camerawork, mise-en-scene, editing and music. The target audience for this video would be 13-17 year olds. 

Mise-en-scene

This category contains multiple different sections, for example there is location, costumes, lighting, proxemics, blocking, setting, performance from both teachers and students, props and colour. Throughout this video all of these factors have been considered for the video is professional also the video pursues the image that the college is a bright, friendly and professional environment. I gather this information through the use of bright lighting making it an inviting environment, the proxemics and the blocking for the students and teachers are close to one another and showing how the student is engaged with the corse and what they are doing. However, there is also clips of students managing to be alone and be able to work independently on their work and work on their person motivation to complete tasks and their independence as well as their communication and teamwork skills, shown through students being gathered around a table talking about a project they are working on. The students are shown to be wearing their own clothing that appears to be smart but casual clothing to keep the idea of an professional environment but also making the students feel comfortable from showing this it makes it so that potential students would feel relaxed and be happy to not have a uniform for they then have their own freedom and feel more adult. The teachers are also shown to be in smart but casual clothing meaning the teachers are relaxed and don’t see themselves to be more superior to the students creating a more relaxed environment.  Throughout the video different rooms are shown for different subjects for example there is a Mac room shown, an art room and a relaxed area for students to relax and do any work needed. From showing different rooms in the building it will make the students see the fact that there is space and what the rooms will look like. Another method the college used would be the performance of both teachers and students for there was both shown smiling and having fun and being relaxed but then also students shown to be concentrating and being independent. From showing this it shows the potential students the idea that college is full of laughter and hard work to make students know they will also have to be able to concentrate and be able to work hard and be able to have a little laughter.  Throughout the video there are different types of races, cultures and genders shown making the college to be an friendly and welcome environment for everyone.

Camerawork

In this video there was multiple different camera angles, shots, clips and angels. For example at the start of the video there is the college building shown with a slow tilt shot with a on to the right, this clip shows students going into the building. There is then a clip of a teacher and student working together with a mid shot to show the location but also the clothing they was wearing. From there, there is then a close up with a tilt down shot of a student doing work and smiling to show the audience the work can be fun. After this there is then a clip of three teenage boys sat on a couch laughing and relaxing in another room that is not a classroom, the effect of showing this helps persuade the audience to attend the college for there is friendly people there and areas where they can relax and joke around. This is done with an over the shoulder long shot to make the audience feels included in the environment. After this there is then a short interview with the principal, from showing the principal it will give the students a view of what they look like and how they present themselves with their voice, appearance and their atmosphere. From this there is then another shot of a different student working in a different class room working independently with books in front of him, showing there to be independent learning occurring. There is then another mid shot of a student and teacher laughing and smiling while learning practically, this then transitions into a male student having an interview with a close up this is shown so that the audience gather information about the type of students that attend the college and how they act. Throughout this video there is sections of it where there is footage of teachers teaching their classes and the students taking notes, from showing this it prepares potential students what they should expect in their lessons and how the lessons work.

Editing 

In this video there are different techniques of editing contained for at the beginning of the video the clip fades in from a white screen. This video is non-continuity editing meaning there is a lot of jump cuts contained in the video and intellectual montage. When there is interviews occurring there is a faded box with the persons name and their role at the college being student, teacher, principal etc. At the end of the video the video fades out white where the name of the college is shown being “Brampton College.”

Music 

Throughout the full video there is background music contained that is joyful and friendly connoting a bright and happy environment when watching the video. This is a smart technique that the college has used for then the student feels involved and relaxed yet excited to see what the college will be like because of the content and the backing music that is played throughout the whole video. The background music goes quieter when someone talks or there is a voiceover contained, it then slowly gets louder to then a suitable pitch that is still relaxing and calming but still hearable.

This video meets it purpose to promote the college and its contents and shows the college to be an enjoyable place to be and a new adventure. The college has created this video well to meets its purpose through using the different techniques they have used.
